I recently received my PhD in Microbiology from Yale University. I also have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame. There are many educators in my family so I have always been in an environment that embraces learning. I have four years of tutoring experience in Elementary Math and Science and two years of tutoring a student athlete in AP Science and AP US History. I also have three years of experience teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Biology at Sacred Heart University and 1.5 years of experience as a teaching fellow for Biology lab courses at Yale University. While I was at Yale, I was also a Teaching Fellow at the Center for Teaching and Learning for 2.5 years. As a Teaching Fellow, I developed lessons to help first time teaching fellows become familiar with fundamental concepts in education like active learning and learning styles.
My favorite subjects to tutor are those related to Biology such as Microbiology, Ecology, Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, etc. I have always been curious about figuring out how life works and how ecosystems interact with each other. I particularly find the intersection of microbes with human health (be it good or bad) to be interesting. I also enjoy tutoring Elementary Math and Algebra.
My favorite part of tutoring is helping students achieve their goals and become more confident in subject areas that are difficult. For each student I work with, I try to identify the areas of most difficulty for them, establish goals to help overcome these difficulties, and put specific action plans in place to achieve those goals. I optimize my tutoring approach to a students individual learning style, but always teach a concept in multiple ways to optimize results.
