As a lifelong teacher and student, tutoring has been a constant passion of mine. After completing my Bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, I earned my Masters degree in English and Creative Writing. Initially, I planned to become a High School English Language Teacher. However, after guest teaching a Pre-K class, I became passionate about working in Early Childhood Education. Though a stark contrast, I relish the challenge of meeting students of all ages where they are, and I enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals.
My tutoring career began during my junior year in college when I coached adult students prepare for the reading comprehension portion of the GED exam. As time progressed, I worked with students of all ages in many different subjects.
It is essential for students to connect with the subjects. Children are naturally curious about the world around them. Moreover, I find that they enjoy discovering the connecting with acquiring a first and second language to their environment. In many cases when preschool students learn English as a second language, they become fascinated with the parallels of English and their first language. Adults prefer to make the practical connection to English and everyday life. As an educator, I am fascinated by the challenge of bridging that connecting with language acquisition and how it applies to their lives.
