Certified Tutor

I am a recent graduate from Emerson College. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a focus on fiction. In addition, I minored in psychology and photography. I am experienced in academic and personal essay writing as well as fiction and poetry.

I tutor in English, grammar, essay-writing, American Literature (up to college-level) psychology, verbal SAT prep and lower level Spanish. While I tutor in a wide range of subjects I am most passionate about writing and literature as these are the subjects that have guided me throughout my life and to which I am most dedicated.

In my free time I love to take and edit photographs, practice yoga, hike, bike, cook, bake, read, play piano, knit and watch movies.

My teaching philosophy is centered around giving each student the unique attention they need. In a one-on-one environment it is possible, and thus, I believe, imperative to zero in on each student's individual learning style, whether it be visual, aural, verbal, etc., and teach in the manner that the student responds to best. The student may not know at the beginning of our tutoring sessions what kind of learner they are, but after we have figured it out together they will have gained an important tool in becoming independent learners because they will know the best way for them to receive information and thus will be able to educate themselves more easily.

My mother is a high school Spanish teacher and thus has imparted the vast importance of education onto me throughout my life. Education opens so many doors that would have been closed otherwise and having the right teacher to help open those doors can make all the difference. I believe that, through my dedication to academia, my love of learning, and experience helping my peers write in fiction and essay workshops that I have the ability to be the type of teacher to elevate students to their full potential.
