Education has always been very important to me. I am very curious about all kinds of subjects and am always trying to learn new things. I love to read and am particularly interested in historic fiction and science fiction/fantasy. Math and science did not always come easily to me but I persevered and became proficient which has opened opportunities for me. I graduated with a BS degree from University of Florida in Psychology and a MS degree in System Technology (Space Operations) from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. I served as a Naval Officer for over ten years. I have extensive teaching experience having taught students from Kindergarten to College in a variety of settings. At Christian Home Academy in Middleburg, Florida, a small private school, students used a self-paced curriculum and it was my job to facilitate learning for students at all grade levels. Some of the students had severe learning disabilities and I gained experience at different ways of reaching the students. I have taught a variety of mathematics classes at Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida to a diverse student body including many adult learners. Each of these courses required a balance between covering all the course objectives while at the same time optimizing learning for students with widely different math skills and learning abilities. I break down complicated concepts into understandable building blocks and use different methods of approaching a problem to reach students who do not always comprehend the examples in the textbook. In addition to my experience as an adjunct professor, I have taught in some non-traditional settings. I developed and taught a Reproductive and Physiology class for the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. I have successfully individually tutored several students in a variety of subjects but am most passionate about math and science. I look forward to creating a positive working relationship with you or your student.
