Since I was very young, I have always loved to figure out how things work and sharing what I learned with others. I truly enjoy what my dad calls the "ah ha!" moment, which is when something seems to click in a person's head and that person suddenly understands. I believe I inherited this love of understanding from my father; whenever he would teach me something and I had an "ah ha!" moment, he would get very excited, and that would cause me to get very excited as well.
I have been a tutor on two separate occasions in the past: first I was hired at Ohlone College to tutor computer science, and second I independently tutored computer science at San Francisco State University. Those were certainly the two best jobs I have ever had. Every one of my students has benefited greatly from my tutoring, including the student who tried to get me to do his homework for him (don't worry, I didn't do his homework for him). The main reason I am successful in this is because I focus on determining *how* my student can learn and not just *what* my student needs to learn. Everyone learns a different way, and part of the challenge is to determine what that way is. Without this, the "ah ha!" moment, true understanding, rarely occurs.
I am sincerely excited to continue my career as a tutor. I look forward to meeting new students, determining how they each learn, and hearing them say "ah ha!".
