Certified Tutor

I have completed a BS in Retail Management and a BA in Languages and Cultures. Additionally, I have completed an MA in Archaeology of the Classical Mediterranean at the University of Sheffield in the UK. My passion is in Roman Archaeology and have dug at Roman sites in England and Italy. During my BA I also found a passion in Latin. It gave me a challenge I was looking for and I love to beat it. My mission as a tutor is to help students to fully comprehend, memorize, and be as successful in Latin as they possibly can. I am extremely patient and will do whatever it takes to help you become better at the language.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Assess exactly where the student is at with Latin. Ask what difficulties they have been having, and start a plan to get them on track to success!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By giving them all of the tools that aid in learning the Latin language.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

A Latin dictionary, textbooks, chart sheets, a small whiteboard, and notecards.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break the skill or concept down and identify where the problem area is.

What is your teaching philosophy?

To be patient, listen, and help students overcome any adversity.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Once you start to become proficient in the language of Latin, that in itself is a self-motivator.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

By trying various methods such as: 1. Have the student read out loud to help identify key themes or words 2. Determine what texts are important 3. Make inferences (The author says this, but means this) 4. Ask questions

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

By reassuring them that they can do well on this subject and be at the top of their class.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By asking them what they do understand and what they are having a hard time understanding.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

If the student is a more visual learner, I would provide visual aids. If the student learns best by repetition, by verbally saying the answer out loud or would rather write it down, I will adapt to any needs that my student has.
