Samuel: Homewood tutor
Certified Tutor
I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma in 2016. Furthermore, I have tutored for six years in the ACT and SAT, along with mathematics through differential and integral Calculus, and a host of subjects ranging from humanities and writing through physical sciences such as Chemistry.
I have written an ACT study guide that condenses practical advice in a palatable manner, and we could work through this should you be interested!

What is your teaching philosophy?
There are two types of motivation:
Extrinsic motivation: This motivation is driven by external goals, such as gaining admission to a top school, receiving a scholarship, etc. There is nothing wrong with desiring such goals, and sometimes this is all the motivation I need to instill in a student to get him/her to have the resolve to continue to excel.
Intrinsic motivation: This motivation is cultivated not by external recognition but by the individual's awareness of the values of learning that build an individual's character and help him/her to understand the importance of learning to become a more verdant member of society who is able to engage in his/her own analysis of events. I believe that the right kind of education goes beyond the pursuit of a career for the extrinsic benefits and dives into the intangible qualities that allow an individual to think analytically and creatively, and ultimately fulfill the individual.
