What is your teaching philosophy?
A student's interest in a topic is entirely determined by the effectiveness and ability of the teacher to garner interest in the subject.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to get a feel for the student's learning techniques and what environment is most conducive to their success.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By teaching them how to effectively utilize resources and retain material from class/tutoring sessions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would empathize with the student if he/she felt intimidated or disheartened by the material they are learning, but also try to show them the joys of understanding and mastering a subject.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try a different approach and try to isolate the concept or idea the student is not understanding and explain that in more detail.
