What is your teaching philosophy?
I want all students to understand that they are able to learn. It just may not be in the same way or at the same speed as their peers.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
We will introduce ourselves and chat for a few minutes, getting to know each other and become comfortable. Then we will address the topics the student is needing help with by discussing issues and goals. Having established these ideas, we will then proceed with learning!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Students become independent by gaining confidence in what they learn. I work to give students the tools they need (based on their learning style) to grow that confidence.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Students can stay motivated by seeing their own growth. I like to visibly chart their growth with them so that they see they are learning!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
We would work together to find a point in the skill or concept that they DO understand, and then start there. By charting their growth, finding their learning style, and pulling multiple resources we will work together to improve their understanding of that skill.
