As for me, it is a pleasure and a joy to serve as an instructor for a wide variety of age groups and to see their eyes widen when they get an understanding of a difficult problem. In the past, I had begun volunteering as a summer school worker at an elementary school. I have been serving as a volunteer instructor in the English/Spanish communities.

In Metro Atlanta, Georgia, I volunteered in an elementary library and later I was a substitute teacher for ESOL, Art, and computer lab. In Lake County, Ohio, I was a volunteer tutor at Adult Basic and Literacy Education Program (ABLE). Presently, I am an ESOL, GED, computer, and math tutor at Painesville ABLE. Also, I have done online tutoring Medical Terminology in Spanish.

My degrees have trained me to utilize my skills as an educator, a computer networking specialist, and a graphic designer. I have two degrees in Computer Networking Specialist and Industrial Technology in Mechanical Drafting.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

He/she should start with the easiest subject and eliminate any distractions (find a quiet place such as the library). Set personal goals. Be persistent in finding the answers on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Here are a couple ways to help motivate a student: set attainable goals and use a system to track the student's progress.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Some students are tactile or visual, so games such as online games to stimulate the ability to learn are helpful.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Find out what the student does and does not understand. Use various strategies to work on his/her problem.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

One strategy I have found successful is finding out which learning style works for the student.
