What is your teaching philosophy?
Only the best teach! I empower my students through the Socratic method--that is, I encourage them to think on their own feet.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
On my first session, I would probably give my student a preliminary assessment of their skills, and what they want to improve upon.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Empowered students think for themselves. I encourage students to be honest with me about their strengths and weaknesses.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Students are motivated when they have a vested interest in what they are studying, so it's my job as a tutor to make the information material to the student.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Take a step back, and get to the root of the problem. Some students become overwhelmed by seemingly daunting tasks, but breaking difficult questions down into smaller sections makes conquering the material less challenging.
