I would want students to feel comfortable with me. I would try to get to know the students and see what interests him/ her. This will help direct my instruction, and I may be able to use examples that are interesting to the student.

I want students to be able to think independently. Although this may not come naturally to some students, it is important that I ask probing questions and model thinking in order for students to see how their thinking should progress in different circumstances.

I want all students to be motivated to do the best they can. Many of my students in school get rewarded for working hard during class time or completing homework by receiving a no homework pass for the next lesson. I think students who are looking for tutoring can also be rewarded. It is important to recognize their hard work during each session and let them see their achievement in their grades.

I enjoy helping students who are motivated to learn. I try to encourage student learning through investigation and real-world problems. I am always looking for new and creative ways to teach concepts to students.

I believe it is important for students to know what it is they are reading. Highlighting important information and keeping notes as they read are all helpful tips. Discussing the content and context of the passages also helps with comprehension.

I like to try to get to know the student both on a personal level as well as an academic level. I ask them about their hobbies and also what they think their strongest areas are in school. I like to be able to build off our relationship during tutoring sessions.

Struggling in an area just means that we are able to get better at it. I use the same approach with my own daughter. Concepts we struggle with actually make us better in the long run, because we use more critical thinking skills and perseverance to overcome and understand the concepts.
