I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

What is your teaching philosophy?

To learn something, you need to understand why it is the way it is; you will never learn by just memorizing things.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introducing myself, and letting the student know who I am and feel comfortable with me, is the most important thing. Then I can get into the work and try to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Showing a student independent study skills is very important because someone won't always be there to help them.
