Haley: Santa Barbara tutor
Certified Tutor
I love the experience of getting to know each and every new student or client I meet and learning how we can take what they already know and help them take it further. That is what I am here to do!
I currently work as a college professor and I do research on economics, families, and the United States. I teach a wide range of subjects, because I LOVE to explore the connections across different fields that really help students see how the things they are learning in any given class relate to the world around them.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is best summed up by the phrase "student-centered learning." I personalize every lesson to match my client's particular needs and the skills they bring to the subject matter. Sometimes, clients don't know how much knowledge they already have, and it's my job to help them find that inner knowledge and link it to the content we are working on together. When a client knows that what they are learning is linked to who they are and what they know of the world, there is nothing that can stop them from succeeding!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I want to know what my student's goals are in seeking a tutor and what particular boost they need from me to achieve it. A first session is a great chance to break the ice, set some achievable goals, and work out a game plan for reaching them together.
