Tutoring is a love I have. Children are seeking to learn and are awed with the world. I like to be a help to them especially in the areas of math and reading. i become aware of their interests and suggest literature that they can read in those areas. Moreover, reading and math can be fun especially when you give students hands on approaches, educational games, and other strategies to help them develop in areas of comprehension, decoding, and fluency. I have been tutoring for several years with much experience that has been a blessing in my educational career. I would look forward to helping your child develop.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Having taken education philosophy in my college career and having had some practical experience, I incorporate several philosophies in my educational outlook. I believe in existentialism in that what we discover at the moment through creative experiences can change our outlook and direction. I like Deweyism in that education can be a practical experience of hands-on development that will lead our students to contribute to society. Then, I think we need a basic creed such as the Marya Collin's Creed that values our contributions in the academic and social realms.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know their interests, pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses and make it hands-on, games, and cognitive to enhance their learning.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I believe you can help them become an independent learner by employing motivational techniques personalized to them to spark their interest and inquiry.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would break it down in simplistic steps.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I use graphic organizers and games of interest. I would have them read at just a little above their reading level, especially with books that intrigue them.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I get to know their interests and use differentiated instruction tailored to their learning style.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would get to know them and relate a subject to their interests and motivate them.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use various ways of assessment, such as standard tests, journals, writing essays, and much more to gauge their learning.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

First, I want to build their self-esteem by affirming them and giving them step by step confidence.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I believe we must make lessons tailored to students' interests and also use differentiated learning to adjust to their learning styles.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

You evaluate student needs based on school records, teacher and parent consultation, and other evaluations.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

As time goes on, you assess how learning objectives are being met and employ step by step goals that break down goals.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I try to use hands-on materials and teacher resource books that engage the student.
