What is your teaching philosophy?

A customized teaching method for each student.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Teaching, beginning with the most interesting things.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Draw a picture, tell a story, or watch a short video.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Breaking down the sentence and focusing on the sentence structure.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Asking them what their most favorite thing is. Then, start with that, mixing grammar, culture, and vocabulary at the same time.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Find the most difficult part and break down it piece by piece.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Ask them, can you tell me what it is? or Can you say it again? I will always make a summary about the lesson and send to my student's email after the class. It is very useful to help them remember everything.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Teach them easy things first.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I will customize a textbook for each student. I focus on teaching them, beginning with their interests.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Ask them what their goal for the next following sessions is. What is their favorite thing? How do they like to start our studying?

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Encouraging them for every small improvement.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Ask them about their feelings to see how many vocabulary words they get or how many sentences they can create.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Teaching them from their favorite things. If the student likes art, we can draw pictures together while learning Chinese.
