I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

My goal is to inspire students to strive for greatness at all levels of their lives. Whether that's simply for one assignment or an entire course, I will be there guiding them along with whatever difficulties lie ahead. At the same time, I hope that each student will allow me the opportunity to better improve myself as both an educator and as a person. I strive for perfection in everything I do, so I am always seeking to improve myself. At the end of the day, I will always take the time to assist each person that comes to me to the best of my abilities, and hopefully being tutored by me will be an enjoyable experience for each student.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to let students make mistakes and help them correct their mistakes, rather than simply showing them how to do everything. Making mistakes is important, as it allows people to understand why they didn't do something correctly. At the same time, they'll now know the correct way of doing something and, hopefully, avoid making the same mistake repeatedly.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would try to get to know them on a more personal basis, such as hobbies and activities outside of the classroom. I feel it is important to know your students as a person, rather than just another number.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I want to show them correct study habits in addition to simply helping them out with problems on their assignments. That way, they can become self driven and do things on their own more often than not.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I'd show them the importance of what they're doing and how it affects their future. Giving up on something is never the correct solution, so giving them positive reinforcement and reassurance is necessary in order to help the student stay the course.
