I earned my MFA in creative writing from Portland State University and my BA in English from the University of California, Berkeley. These days I teach writing and publishing at Portland State University and Portland Community College, and I have taught creative, academic, and professional writing, including college application essays and publisher query letters. When I am not teaching, I write fiction (my debut book, From the Caves, won several national awards) and my shorter works have appeared in Poets & Writers, Longreads, The Kenyon Review, CRAFT Literary Magazine, New Orleans Review, and elsewhere.
