Hello,
I am a German native speaker from Berlin, the capital of Germany, or Deutschland.
I have taught German as a Foreign Language, European Studies as well as Literature and Writing for over 20 years, from high school students all the way up to university level, both in the US and abroad.
My Ph.D. is in Literature and Philosophy, and I take a vital interest in everything connected to language and literature as well as philosophy, the arts, and history.
My interests are by no means limited to what used to be called "high culture", though.
On the contrary, I am very interested in movies, TV-shows, comics, as well as video games.
Why? Basically they have two things in common. All of those are visual media telling stories.
And I am very much interested in storytelling across genres and media.
This also connects to my teaching and teaching methods. Though these might vary from subject to subject, my general approach is conversational.
In this case, conversational refers less to the tone , of course. It rather stresses the active role of the students, and the kind of interaction between the student and tutor.
Looking forward to meeting you soon!
Best regards - tschuess und bis bald!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Mainly through spurring intellectual curiosity.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
The key is to experience success and achievements.
