What is your teaching philosophy?

I arouse a student's curiosity by asking question(s).

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would do that by telling the student what rewards are waiting for him/ her, both tangible and intangible, should he / she succeed in his/ her studies.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would not give up. I would alter or switch into a different approach to tackle the problem.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

There are several courses designed specifically for such students. I am certain that one or more of them will help the student overcome that obstacle.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Real life examples never fail to grab a student’s attention. In science, examples abound where students can actually relate them to their own lives.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

There are fun crossword puzzles in various subjects. I would challenge a student to take one with me.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I use variety of techniques. Writing on a board, drawing, PowerPoints, charts, graphs, speaking and engaging. The key is variety in presentation.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would do that by telling the student I struggled at the beginning too, but look at me now. If I can do it, you can do it.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Assessment is the key.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I am pretty flexible in my teaching style. Some students are more visual than other. With those I use more charts and graphs. Others are more analytical. With those I use more PowerPoint slides.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Writing pads, laptops, and props if available.
