Brianna: Leicester tutor
Certified Tutor
I am an Graduate with a Master of Physics from Texas A&M University Commerce. I am currently living in Riverview, FL and want to help students and earn a little extra income as I search for a career job. I want to become an astrophysicist and do research on stars and planets. I am also highly interested in data science and analysis. Tutoring someone can be such a rewarding experience. Not only do you get to share your knowledge of a subject, but you also get to enlighten and teach someone else something new. I tutored math in high school and also tutored college algebra my sophomore year of undergrad college and found it a very fun and intriguing experience! In addition I have taught 2 astronomy lab courses as a teaching assistant in graduate school. I have the patience to go step by step over material, understanding that not everyone learns at the same pace nor does everything click the first time a topic is introduced. I have also previously done Varsity Tutors for a year. Using this previous experience and my lively, friendly personality I am sure I can help someone learn new material in mathematics or even entry-level physics.
In addition to doing physics, I also love to play clarinet and participate in marching/concert bands! I was involved in leadership in band as Section Leader and I was in the Society of Physics Students in undergrad and grad school. I also love to dance, travel, eat and learn new things. :)

What is your teaching philosophy?
Learning something takes repetition and practice! Break down the material and build from the ground up, step-by-step. With my students, I would make sure they understand the basics and move forward from there.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session, I would evaluate a student's learning abilities and see what goal the student has for the subject matter. Then we would plan out together the best way to reach this goal over the time period we decide.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Anyone has the capability to teach themselves, it is just setting up with the right tools that is difficult. As a tutor I can supply the student with the right study tools - such as great tricks to use and websites- to refer to as they are learning so that the student can successfully learn the new material. I can also, of course, answer any questions they have if they are still confused on a topic.
