Hi. My name is Irlanda Ruiz.
I have a Master Degree in Special Education. I was a professor in the Sagrado Corazon University in San Juan until this December. At the University I teach four different undergraduate classes and one graduate class. I love my students and we use technology and contemporary references in the classroom. I have been teaching since 1998. My skills and education provide me with the tools to teach any age group. I love to teach and I have design more than thirty (30) different continue education courses.
As Special Education Specialist I know that everybody learns in a different way. I teach in the way that the student can understand it and use the information and skills in real life. I come from a Spanish language Island. My native language is Spanish and I love it. I have a Bachelor Degree in Public Communication and a Juris Doctor.

You should have fun while learning.

Know him or her, and learn about their interests.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Assessing how this student learns and then using different teaching techniques based on his or her interests, strengths and needs.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Creating a fun environment to learn that shows the importance of learning.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Repetition.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I use pictures, videos and words.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Evaluate the student.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Listening to them and looking for new material that relates to their day to day life.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Questions and tests.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
With positive feedback.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Each case is very individual.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Reviewing the class material, asking them what they need and what they want.
