We are all born with a natural curiosity, and my goal as a tutor is to engage students so that they are motivated by that curiosity. I want students to learn through their own individual styles, and my approach to english, writing, and literature is to encourage questions and critical thought. That way students can improve both their writing and reading skills, all while becoming creative and analytical thinkers.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I think that everyone is born with natural curiosity, and I aim to invoke that curiosity. I want students to approach learning with their own individual style, and I think students are most successful when allowed to apply this individuality to their education.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to talk with students to find out what they specifically need help with, and what subjects they do enjoy. I use feedback from previous tutors, teachers, and classes to develop lesson plans.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By encouraging them to ask questions! To be excited about learning, it's important to know that your questions have merit, and that the answers are available. With younger students, I think the internet is an especially important resource because students consume so much knowledge without realizing it's a part of learning. I was to appeal to what's relevant in that student's life, and show how it relates to their education.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know the students, both as a person and as a student, is very important to me. I like to have a conversation with students about their goals and learning styles. That way I can create an individualized learning plan and set a pace accordingly.
