I care deeply about others, especially the underserved and disadvantaged. My mantra is "kindness matters." Kindness, compassion and education are my core values. They define my purpose and give meaning to my life.

Impact or Legacy I Want to Leave

In the end, I want others to remember me as someone who cared deeply about connecting to others: sharing joys, defeats, accomplishments, and fun along the way; that my life mattered because I made a difference in small, yet significant ways in the quality of other people's lives.

Professional Values

Professionally, I am pulled in the direction of helping others find their way. I do this by sharing the knowledge I've gained in my engineering career with those struggling to learn. What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning is fun. So I teach in fun ways!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would learn more about their likes and dislikes, hobbies, and aspirations. Then, I would learn about their strengths and spots of improvements.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Slowly give them small puzzles to solve, increasing the difficulty as they solve them. Then reward them with a compliment and positive reinforcement.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

First, by being positive and uplifting when good work is done, then providing constructive criticisms for mistakes.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break the concept down using their favorite things. For example, if they have a favorite sport, I would use it to explain the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Read a sentence, then ask them what the sentence means and how it relates to the article. I find that slowly working in small steps like this works.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I find that understanding the expectations of the parent and identifying the student's strength and areas of improvement allows me to pace the learning process accordingly. Pacing the tutoring for the students alleviates frustration and creates progress, which motivates the student to learn more.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would try to relate the subject to a topic or activity they like. For example, if asked an algebraic question, and the student likes cars, I would reform the question using cars.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

to understand the material is knowing the how's or why's of the material. For example, 2 x 3 equals 6. So I would ask the student why that is correct and make sure their reasoning is accurate.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Constant praise with constructive criticism is usually the best method.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I observe their behavior during the tutoring session, analyze how they handled the material being taught, and question their understanding of the material.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

If the student is struggling with a particular material, I would spend some more time exploring it. If a student quickly understands a material, I would advance them until they feel challenged.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

It depends on the material. Test sheets, the student's homework and textbooks. Sometimes toys to play out word problems.
