From a young age, I had a desire understand the physical world from a scientific viewpoint. My mother would buy science books that would elaborate on my observations, and the "aha" moments were priceless. I loved problem-solving by forming, then disproving and re-formulating my hypotheses. As early as 6th grade, I would spend hours carefully analyzing the breath-taking detail captured by my first 3D anatomy book. Math became my best friend in the second grade, thanks to my excellent second-grade teacher who spent a considerable amount of time to build a solid foundation in math. From there, I soared, completing Calculus I by the end of my senior year in high school.

I was fortunate to have parents who were attentive enough to provide the resources to feed my curiosity for the scientific world. Thanks to my parents and teachers along the way, my interest in math and science has been nurtured into a desire to use math and science as means of helping people through medicine. Knowing how impactful quality instruction carefully delivered by influential teachers has been in my own life, it is my desire to have the same effect on each student whom I have the pleasure and responsibility to teach and guide in the math and science realm.

Through the years, it has become more and more apparent that a foundational understanding in math and science is required for any level of higher education. Even if a student has a passion for the arts, in order to develop as an artist at a University, this student must perform well on the math and science portions of the SAT or ACT to even gain admission to his/her desired college. Math and science have become the gateway to higher education. Because of this fact, helping a student succeed in math and science is essentially setting this student up for future life success. This is a powerful role, and I feel fortunate to have such an impact on the students I help.

What is your teaching philosophy?

First of all, I am very aware that each student learns differently, and my approach is individualized and tailor-made for each student I tutor. Science and mathematics are complex and intimidating subjects, so it is my goal to lay a firm foundation in these subjects for each student I tutor. This foundation is built by first helping to guide the student to construct his/her own systemic approach to each problem. Once a system is in place, the key is repetition. "Repetition is the mother of learning." I live by this ideology.
