Certified Tutor
Hello! Welcome to my profile.
My tutoring experience spans 15+ years. I have tutored online and in-person in the subjects of math, science, and social studies at levels 3-8th grade. I have also tutored, up to and through college level, in the subjects of English and French. I am fluent in French and enjoy helping students learn the schematics of the language, with advancement into literature and writing, while also perfecting their basic conversational skills and technique. I have served as a full-time instructor for 6-8th grade students within a hybrid school for independent learning in south Florida. In addition, I was a private tutor in a program geared towards traveling, equestrian athletes in south Florida, as well as a certified, approved tutor for high-profile and celebrity clients within the south Florida area.
I am also a writer and enjoy the freedom that comes with the field. I have written four, feature-length screenplays and completed an M.F.A. in Screenwriting from National University's Professional Screenwriting program; founded by Bettina Moss, former managing story editor for HBO. I have an extensive background in Film and obtained a B.A. in Film Studies, with a minor of Studio Arts, from the University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Filmmakers School of Film & Photography. My experience in media has led me to a career in social media/digital media marketing and event planning.
My experience with tutoring has been both rewarding and challenging; I never turn down the opportunity to help a student, no matter how long it takes! Learning is power and there's always room to grow.

What is your teaching philosophy?
To teach is to guide. Whether this guidance is towards an understanding of a concept or an answer to a difficult question, there is a shared method of getting the student there and providing a "helping hand" for that is what matters the most!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to find out what a student knows about the subject matter they are working on before we even begin to tackle their problem.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Helping a student learn how to get the answer instead of just giving the answer is the key to independent learning.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By letting them know that the answer is not as important as understanding how to get it.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By asking them what steps they would take to answer their problem, and from there I can usually assess their skill level.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Pen and paper, computer, and workbooks.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
By presenting them with the unexpected, like a new strategy or method of learning.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I like to use the skimming method. Going through a passage, paragraph by paragraph, and looking for sentences that might be important. Then, putting all of the sentences together.
