Hi!!
I am currently finishing up my Master's in Chemistry, will be done in May 2016. I have an interest in Medicine and also work as an Emergency Department scribe. I love working with people and learning new things. I think Chemistry gets a bad rep. It truly is not so bad once you get into it, and it eventually becomes fun.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Anyone can learn anything; you just have to put your mind to it and be willing to put in the time and effort.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know who I am working with. Go over what your goals are for our time together. Then determine what you do know and go from there.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Give the resources, tools and confidence to tackle problems on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
With affirmations.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Relate it to something they enjoy and that excites them.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Make it fun.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Ask the same question in various formats to ensure they know it. Give multiple examples.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Affirmations and making sure they truly understand the concept. When students know the material, they gain confidence in being able to answer it, despite how it is phrased or formatted.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Determine what they know and how well they know the information.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Based on their personality and learning style.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Visual aids. Equations.
