Certified Tutor

I graduated from The City College of New York, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. Currently, I am pursuing a medical degree. I have been tutoring in some capacity for over four years. I have tutored students from 1st grade to 12th grade in both mathematics and sciences. Almost all of the students I tutored went to were in the public school system of New York City. My interaction with these students has taught me that each and everyone one of us is capable of learning even the most difficult of topics. The most important factor that determines mastery over a topic is how well the subject matter is presented. Also, not all students learn in the same style. Hence, I am always conscious of the manner in which I present topics to students. Most importantly, learning should be fun. There is nothing more euphoric than the thrill of discovering new knowledge and achieving proficiency. I keep these principles in mind when outlining a lesson plan and I am confident that my tutoring methods will help you achieve your goals. Besides tutoring, I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and enjoy cooking, swimming, and football.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy is simple and it is captured in this saying: Thousands of new ideas can stem from a single idea, and the value of that single idea will not be diminished. That is to say, by tutoring, I am helping spread knowledge into fresh minds from which many new and brilliant ideas may stem from. In turn, this propels current ideas forward.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way to help a student become an independent learner is by (1) by instilling confidence in students and (2) equipping them with the necessary tools for their success. The one quality shared by all independent learners is self-efficacy, which is an individual's belief in his or her own capacity to complete a task.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

The best way to ensure that a student stays motivated is to organize a system in which they can visualize their progress. This can be done by setting up weekly, or even daily, goals that they should strive to attain. Once students attain a goal, the sense of achievement they feel drives them to achieve the next one, thus ensuring the student stays motivated.
