I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I'm a research assistant at a foreign policy think tank in Washington, DC. My work focuses on political transitions, military conflict and the economic development of the Middle East, Turkey, Iran and the Caucasus.

I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. I studied at a French private school and graduated with a French high school diploma (or le baccalaurat franais). I went to Boston University in Boston, MA for my undergraduate studies where I majored in Economics and International Relations. Thus, I am native in Arabic, Armenian and French, fluent in Turkish and have an intermediate fluency level in Azerbaijani and Farsi (due to my upbringing, background and education).

I'm very passionate about teaching languages, European and World History to students of different levels and ages. I can also help you prepare for the GRE as I have studied for it extensively in preparation for my graduate school applications. I believe that patience, hard work and dedication in conveying the message to the student pays off at the end and is a very rewarding experience for the tutor and student at once.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that patience, hard work and dedication in conveying the message to the student pays off at the end, and is a very rewarding experience for the tutor and student at once.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself and then ask them more about themselves, their educational background and their future goals. I would also work on assessing the initial needs of the student in order to prepare for the upcoming sessions.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Repetition, practice and praising and highlighting the student's development and progress.
