Certified Tutor

I am a lifelong learner with a Masters from Columbia University in Organizational Psychology and a BA from University of California, Irvine in Psychology and Social Behavior with an emphasis on K-12 education. I have worked with a range of students throughout my academic career as a peer counselor, tutor and and career development coach. Additionally, I have worked in HR (specifically recruitment and engagement) for over 5 years, coached a young soccer team in my hometown and volunteered at the UN in NYC before becoming an independent consultant.

The diversity of the people I have worked with has provided me with ways to make my approach useful and flexible in many different environments. With these varying experiences, backed up by theories and studies about learning styles, teambuilding skills, personality assessments; I have found a sweet spot in tutoring and coaching students to become confident and independent in the work they do. I appreciate the individualized approach that Varsity Tutors provides to its clients and am excited to give back to the community.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Enjoy the learning process. If there is a way to laugh and have fun while teaching and learning, then we are doing something right.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

It's important to know why we are doing this in the first place. Whether it's about getting a better grade or just wanting to learn more about the material, we can't accomplish our goal if we don't know what that goal is.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Having worked as a coach and counselor, I have always looked to work my way out of a job. I know I've been successful when the student has a set of tools that they are prepared to use and know when to use them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

It's important to get to know the student and understand what their motivations are. I like to have small attainable goals that move us toward the larger reward.
