I love the aspects of learning and teaching. Being able to help someone understand something is really rewarding. I'm currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Arizona State University as well as a minor in Spanish. I served a two-year mission in Peru for my church. It was there that I learned and grew to love the Spanish language. For this reason I tutor Spanish. I also tutor high school and middle school level math, such as geometry and algebra.
I think that each person is unique with unique sets of strengths and weaknesses. I believe that the key to successful tutoring is explaining and teaching the material in a way that the student actually learns. To do so you have to know the student and how they understand things. I'm a quick thinker and dedicated so this helps me understand the strengths of a student to be able to use them to help learn.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that each individual learns in their own unique way. True understanding of the subject requires that it is taught and explained in the way that the student learns.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session it’s necessary to establish trust as well as an understanding of how the student learns. I would start by simply getting to know them and how they feel about their classes.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
To help a student become an independent learner, they have to become an independent thinker. To facilitate this step I would ask questions that bridge the gap from where they are to where they want to be.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
To help a student stay motivated you have to recognize their achievements, no matter how small, and give them encouragement when they're feeling down or frustrated.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I would break it up into simpler parts and apply it to something they already know to help them grasp the concept.
