What is your teaching philosophy?

Listen to the student's needs and build from there.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Identify what they are trying to accomplish and their overall goals, and establish a good plan to achieve them.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Encourage practicing. After feeling accomplished in answering a couple questions with the tutor, they should practice on their own, a lot. Math is much like any sport or musical instrument; the more time put in the better one becomes. It can become addicting.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Positive reinforcement that will then be supported by attaining high marks on their exams and homework. The pride in doing good work will propel them to work harder.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Encourage practice. Math is much like training for a sport; the more practice, the better at comprehending.
