Certified Tutor

I'm a Ph.D. student in the Oceanography department at the University of Hawaii, specializing in environmental microbiology. I'm passionate about both teaching and learning, and hope to continue doing both for a long time. I find learning to be fun and empowering and I want to share that sentiment with my students. My fields of expertise are biology, English language, and some math. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. My work as a graduate research assistant at University of Hawaii involves both science (bioinformatics applications to gene sequence data), and science communication. I've had the pleasure of teaching in a wide variety of settings including a molecular biology laboratory, a university English class in China, a writing center, and even a state park as a naturalist. I offer students a personalized approach based on an assessment of their particular strengths and weaknesses. I also strive to make learning engaging and fun for the student. I am looking for dedicated students with a thirst and appreciation for knowledge.
