Certified Tutor

I have always appreciated education and the many ways it is relevant to our life. I am a recent college graduate from UC Riverside with a BA in Psychology. Being able to say that I have a college education is a privilege and an honor to me because I feel I am making a difference in my life and my family's life being the first one to graduate from college. Along the way I had many struggles and difficulties being an immigrant to the US. I did not know English or had any friends or family other than my parents and brothers. I worked really hard and good people supported me in my journey. I know how hard getting an education can be and how students can feel overwhelmed with accomplishing their dreams. That is why I would do my best as a Varsity Tutor to influence and help students grow in their journey as productive members of our society. The journey starts from a young age and developing good habits and a positive mind set is valuable from an early age. I am delighted to be part of Varsity Tutors and making a difference in students life.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would spend a few minutes trying to know the student. I believe that getting to know one another is very important because it will help us set the environment for the tutoring session.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

There are so many ways in which a student can become an independent learner. Setting schedules and studying strategies are the number 1 thing that is needed to become a successful independent student.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

If the student does not enjoy learning, then he/she can lose motivation very fast. I think that learning is awesome and fun. I believe that a fun challenge can always make things more interesting and that is what I like to do with my students. I like to challenge them in a way that they feel engaged and attentive to what is going on.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I like to find different routes to get to the same answer. If something is not working out for my student, I would take some time to figure out why he/she is not getting the concept and try all alternative ways.
