I've attended the University of South Florida, South Florida Community College and Polk State College. I'll be done with my Bachelor's degree in Fine Art December 6th, and I earned my Associate's degree from Polk State College. I've been tutoring Kindergarten through 3rd grade students in reading for the Polk County public school system for the last three years through Americorps, a national service program. The subjects that I tutor are Art History, English, Phonics, Reading, and Social Studies. I can also helps students with homework support, study skills and organization. My favorite subject to tutor is Art, and I hope to become an elementary school art teacher after completing my certification. Art is my favorite subject to teach because I like the idea of encouraging all young people to have an aptitude in self-expression through creative means, even if they don't want to pursue art as a career. I love drawing, painting, reading, writing, cooking, and hiking. I also just love to help students reach their goals. Everyone learns differently. Through my experiences as a tutor, I've learned that there are several methods and tools that can really make a difference in an individual's learning success. There is always room for improvement, and a positive attitude with a steady application of practice will help any student succeed.

What is your teaching philosophy?
A positive attitude and steady application of practice will help any student succeed.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a typical first session, I would introduce myself and get to know the student's interests and aptitudes.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can teach them how to effectively study on their own in new and fun ways, as well as improve their discipline and organizational skills.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I'd remind them of what they can achieve from their successes.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Sometimes different methods and learning tools can be very helpful and effective when tackling comprehension and the mastery of concepts.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Asking frequent questions about contextual elements, characters, or cause and effect during the reading of an assigned excerpt can be extremely effective.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Each student is different. Some students respond to only the same consistent strategies, while others may respond more favorably to strategies that involve the dynamic inclusion of multiple learning options.
