As an aspiring teacher, when my students graduate from high school, I hope that they will not remember their tests or homework assignments. However, I hope that they will remember that I loved and cared for them, that I always believed in them and that I instilled in them the desire to never give up. I hope I have taught them to embrace their abilities, and dreams and to pursue their goals. I not only wish that for my future students, but also for those that I tutor. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Scranton with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I have always wanted spend my life helping others and found that teaching would be a wonderful way to reach that goal.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that all students are capable of whatever they put their minds to. Each and every child learns differently, and it is the teacher's job to identify what works best for each individual student. Through teaching, I am able mentor students, because a teacher is sometimes the only constant in a child's life. I teach to ignite a student's desire to learn, because teaching is more than meeting the standards and preparing for tests. And, finally, to learn, because oftentimes you can learn more from children than they can learn from you.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In order to begin tutoring, it is crucial that I familiarize myself with how to engage my students in what they are learning. Further, it is critical that I am aware of the strengths and weakness of my students. Lastly, I must develop a session which the student is able to embrace and make his/her own.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I hope to be able to boost their confidence and their skills that they will use to be successful in the classroom. As a teacher, I will share tips and techniques throughout our sessions together.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I strive to make learning fun. Actively engaging students will increase their ability to learn. I also include inquiry in my classroom. Allowing students to explore questions independently will provide them with a sense of ownership of the knowledge they gain.
