Certified Tutor
I consider myself as a great tutor because I grew up learning both, English and Spanish simultaneously. Therefore, I am able to explain and simplify many irregularities and difficult concepts within the languages in a manner in which the student comprehends. In addition,I create a pace according to the student's personal growth instead of pacing according to school's curriculum. I believe student should be able to learn at their own learning pace and understand concepts by being provided many opportunities to discover patterns and explanations in their unique way.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all students should be able to learn at their own pace and discover patterns that will help in applying skills as they grow into a higher level within the subject.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would ask the students what is the area of difficulty, their interests, and how they feel about the pace of the class. I would also ask about the student's interest so I am able to make comparisons or analogies with the topics of interest they enjoy. In addition, I might assess the student's knowledge of the language in all modes, which serves me with more a detailed vision of the student's skills.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will show the student how to analyze and look for recurring patterns within the language to help with ease of learning new content. Also, I will provide helpful study hints and study habits that will help throughout the academic years to come.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will use the information given during the first meeting to keep the student motivated. A good laugh, and making connections with the student's interests, always helps with learning and becoming successful with a difficult subject.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

The most successful strategy is talking to the students and understanding their interest, struggles, and current skills and knowledge of the subject.

Having the students explain the concept in their own words and asking an open ended question as an exit slip is a great way to ensure the student understands the concept.
