L'Tanya
Certified Tutor
I am a great tutor because I address the content differently than it is explained from the book, in school and online. I believe every student can learn and is capable of understanding the most complex material if it is taught in the way a student learns. I love raising animals, sports and reading.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student can be successful!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Ask questions about how the student learns and which subjects are easier than others.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Encourage and motivate them, and allow them to make small advances until it becomes natural, then increase the complexity.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encourage consistently and be specific.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Draw some pictures, use analogies, and describe the same skills using a life experience of theirs.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Identify which areas they are struggling with, observe them reading something they like, like a blog or magazine article, try to identify consistent behaviors or challenges that are arising, and suggest alternatives like pronunciation, and then allow them to summarize each paragraph before proceeding to the next one.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know them, especially their strengths and weaknesses.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Make a game or competition. Draw a picture or animation and create a catchy song.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Various forms of assessments like making a model, PowerPoint, or creating a recipe.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Exposure over and over in different ways, like using diagrams and pictures or animations.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Surveys, games, homework, verbal communication and group assignments.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
It depends on their needs, I am constantly changing my teaching to meet their needs. I try to see improvements in every step. I also reevaluate my teaching based on their success.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Computer, colored pencils, paper, etc.
