Certified Tutor

In 2007 and in 2005 I received an MBA and Bachelor of Information Technology from American Intercontinental University in Houston, Texas respectively. In 1996 I was awarded a Bachelor of Science With Education degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
My tutoring experience goes way back to 1990 when I was in high school. I tutored my fellow classmates and students from other classes or schools in the district. When I joined University in 1992, my room would always fill with colleagues lining up to get tutored. During my freshman year at Makerere University, my former high school Math teacher started his own school and offered me a teaching position in Math and Physics which I accepted and enjoyed teaching. After graduating in 1996, for five years I taught Math, Physics and Introductory Computer Science at one of the best schools in Uganda, Mt. St. Mary's College Namagunga.
I also worked in manufacturing and oil and gas for some successful businesses in Houston, Texas. However, I never lost the passion to teach and tutor students. In 2009 I became an Adjunct Instructor at ITT Technical institute, Webster, Texas where I currently teach full time.
My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Mathematics and Information Technology. I love to solve problems especially those that require calculations or logical reasoning as in Mathematics. I also like to work with my hands and I find Information Technology not only fulfilling but rewarding as well. I also enjoy having and applying concepts in Physics to explain natural phenomena.
Regarding my teaching philosophy, I strongly believe that learning is a continuous life process. In any setting, all the individuals are constantly interacting in numerous ways with their environment, learning new concepts and consolidating old ones. All of us in this environment are learners and a suitable way to help an individual learn a concept is to expose the depth to which the individual knows the concept and then build on that. You can only get to this point by understanding the learner's position.
I have a wide range of things that interest me. The main ones include: tennis, volleyball, music, photography, puzzles, scrabble and Fine Arts.

  4. Teach problem-solving techniques.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
  1. By providing an appropriate and timely feedback to their learning needs.
  2. By addressing their learning needs in a positive way, acknowledging the effort they put in to get the tasks accomplished well.
  3. By finding and applying alternative approaches to disseminate the learning material in an interesting but meaningful way.
