I am a graduate of University of California, Davis. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology with a focus on Psycho-biology/ Pre-Medicine. Upon graduation, I worked for undergraduate admission at UC Davis, my department took part in ranking applicant and determining acceptance for the incoming class. In addition, through the Early Academic Outreach Program at UC Davis, I have been able to advise and create individual academic plans for a wide variety of students in order to reach academic success and acceptance to a 4-year college or career path of their choice. . During various after school programs and multiple summer math academies I have been able to tutor students for a wide variety of subjects, from integrative math to algebra 2 and even standardized testing. I offer tutoring sessions for various subjects. I find my skills, resources and passion to be focused in Math, Science, and Spanish- as I am a native Spanish speaker. I am a life long learner that believes education is the key to success and overall well-being. I aim to share my passion in education by sharing my knowledge, resources and perspective about life in a more realistic and enjoyable manner. In my spare time, I enjoy keeping myself physically active through running, hiking, and swimming but more than anything, I love being at the beach.

What is your teaching philosophy?

You will not always succeed unless you try.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Learn about the student's interest and hobbies. Understand the student's study habits, if any. Access what kinds of study techniques the student enjoys and which are the most effective.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The keys to independent learning are gaining and mastering time-management skills, confidence, and, most importantly, learning how the student learns best. These are assets that I have mastered and can help others achieve.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Having the student learn about their strengths to overcome their weaknesses is essential in creating realistic goals and a reward system in order to continue the momentum.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Getting to know the student's interest, along with what he or she has mastered for the subject, is essential in order to set learning goals and have realistic expectations to reach the student's maximum potential.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

When the student is able to answer questions, explain, and teach the learned material, he or she has mastered the information at hand.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Support, positive reaffirmation, and taking things one step at a time will build upon the student's self-efficacy and self-awareness of skills gained.
