I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Anthropology. I graduated with college honors and my Missouri Teaching Certification grades 1-6. In the Fall of 2014, I student-taught 3rd grade and loved it! I was at New City School, an independent school with a focus on Multiple Intelligences. There, I learned a lot about making learning joyful and teaching to the individual child. Since then, I have been working for the Lindbergh School District in Missouri at Long Elementary tutoring students in all aspects of literacy (reading, spelling, writing) and mathematics. I've thoroughly enjoyed meeting with students of different ages, levels, and personalities. My favorite subject has always been math, so I love to tutor all ages in mathematics - Algebra being the most fun! Besides my specific love of math, working with elementary-aged students is my first passion, and I particularly enjoy helping students improve their reading ability. I engage all my students in experiences that connect them to life and make learning fun. Last Summer, while working at Kids Science Labs, a science camp for ages 3-12, we explored all types of science concepts-from rockets to the environment to our bodies-using hands-on experiments. These camps taught the kids so much, but felt nothing like school. It was fun not only for them, but for me as well! I have taken this fun experience and applied it to my own teaching style.

I firmly believe that all children can learn, they just need the right tools and support for their particular needs. I hope to encourage the students I work with so that they not only can succeed in school, but enjoy doing so. I consider myself a very passionate and bubbly person. I am a team player who loves working with others, and was actually part of a synchronized ice skating team in High School. I love nature, particularly the stars and astronomy. I also love animals and hope to never be without a pet at home. However, my favorite animal is a giraffe (which unfortunately is impossible to have as a pet!). I don't watch a lot of television, but if I do you're likely to find me on the Game Show Network or Food Network. I love meeting new people and exploring, and am excited to see where life takes me!
