Certified Tutor

As a 1st grade student I was asked the question that is often asked by many school teachers: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" My eager response was, and always would be, "Teacher!" Although the type of teacher I wanted to become varied over the years, I knew I wanted to work in the education field supporting students in their journey of lifelong learning. So far, I have been fortunate to work in schools assisting students and building lasting relationships!
My current employment as a paraprofessional in a suburban Milwaukee high school has opened my eyes to the many rewards and challenges that come with being an educator. I thoroughly enjoy assisting students with a wide range of abilities on academic work and life skills. Even though I provide academic support to students with special needs, my degree is actually in the social studies. I have four years of experience in schools with students 5-21 years of age.
Every teacher takes on a certain style of teaching that is unique to them. Mine involves the use of visual aides and tangible examples as much as possible but also includes several opportunities for independent practice. It is important to me that students are presented with resources and how to use them so they can then use those resources to take charge of their learning. Once students have begun to understand a concept, I encourage practice to build confidence and step back unless they need instructional assistance on a specific problem or topic.
The ability to assist students successfully master a topic and become confident in their newfound skills is what I am most interested in as a tutor. I have a strong desire to help others see their value and how much they can accomplish with a little bit of support!
