Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Florida A&M University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations (and minored in Dance). As a public relations student, I created campaigns and media packages, ran and executed events, and consulted organizations and their leaders. I also wrote for my college newspaper, The Famuan, and briefly worked at The Tallahassee Democrat.

Since graduation, I have immersed myself in the world of education! I've served as a tutor and a substitute teacher; now I'm fortunate to work as a first grade teacher. When one teaches, two learn. Over the past four years I've learned so much about tutoring, teaching, and leading. I truly believe that I've learned much more from students than they've learned from me.

The breadth of my experience has been working with students of diverse cultural backgrounds and students with varying exceptionalities. While tutoring for Orange County Public Schools, I saw the power that one-on-one tutoring had on kids. The hunger, appreciation, and growth my tutees displayed motivated me to obtain certification so that I could teach full-time.

I value community, team-work, hard-work, persistence, and humor; I try to impart this upon students. In the words of Aristotle, "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." I believe in building a strong foundation, a foundation that makes way for lifelong learning. The benefits of life-long learning are immeasurable!

In my spare time, I enjoy improvisational comedy, kickball, and experiencing local parks, festivals, farmers markets, and coffee shops.
