Certified Tutor

I graduated from an internationally ranked university with a PhD and an Honors Degree in Political Science. I also have a BA (major: Political Science; minor: Philosophy), and I completed one semester of a Visual Arts Degree. During my doctoral studies I taught and tutored a range of political topics that covered issues of government, public policy, popular culture, international relations, and structures of power. However, my true specialty is essay writing. In addition to running workshops on essay writing and preparing graduate students for the written component of the medical entrance exam, I have written, assessed, and edited hundreds of essays and other written material. I love teaching this subject because I feel this is where students really develop their own voice and ideas. I have a deep passion for drawing out the best in every student and building their confidence is the core of my approach. I feel that students produce their best work and are more receptive to new concepts and knowledge when they are at the center of the learning process. That is why my sessions are fun, engaging, and set by the pace of each individual student. I have utilized this approach for many years with proven results. My previous students were regularly asked to complete university surveys to evaluate my effectiveness as a teacher, my ability to stimulate interest learning in a topic, and my concern for their wellbeing, and I consistently received satisfactions ratings above 90 percent. In terms of my own evaluation, I feel I have been a successful tutor once I have: provided students with the right tools and methods to effectively communicate their ideas; instilled a love of learning and thinking; and built students' confidence so they actively engage with the world in a manner that befits their unique talents and desires.
