I am a graduate of St. John's University where I received a masters degree in Adolescence Education - Spanish. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Adelphi University. Teaching is a career change for me as I have ample experience in Corporate America. I always wanted to be a teacher, so after I had my two beautiful children, I went back to school full-time at night while holding a full-time job during the day. It was not easy, but the passion within me gave me the strength I needed during those times when I felt like giving up from exhaustion. Growing up, I was an ESL student as Spanish is my first language. When I went to Kindergarten I did not understand the English language. However, it did not take long to catch up. I currently teach Spanish at the elementary and middle school levels, but I have also taught High School. My classroom is full of students during my lunch break with students seeking extra help. I never turn anyone away. In my spare time when I am not creating lesson plans, I enjoy reading that enriches my life, ice hockey, football, comedies, concerts, plays, ballet, opera, wine tasting, traveling, and the beach.

My philosophy of teaching Spanish comes from my own personal experience as a Spanish teacher and tutor. For me teaching is a true passion, and it allows me to make a difference in someones life by dedicating my life to the teaching and research of language acquisition and pedagogy. My specific goals as a Spanish teacher are:

To foster the students awareness of their own and others language and culture
Help them gain communicative competence in a second language

My general goals are:

To instill the students passion and desire to become life-long and independent learners
Assist in the acquisition of new learning and study skills
Enable the development of problem solving and critical thinking skills
Help students gain self-confidence by reaching objectives beyond what they consider possible
