I am currently taking a year off before attending Washington University School of Law (class of 2018), and I have graduated from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut in the year 2013 with a BA in Economics. I tutor Economics, LSAT, and United States History. When it comes to a favorite, I actually like each subject matter for separate reasons. For Economics, I believe the two key concepts to understand are the vernacular of the field as well as the mindset. By that I mean there is a distinct mindset one must operate within to think like an economist, and I believe it is one of the first learning curves students must overcome as they adjust to a field that combines math, social science, and in some aspects psychology. The various terms and phrases utilized in economics are tricky but with proper understanding of those terms, the concepts become very intuitive to pick up and the graphs, problems, or essays become a much more fluid process to work through. For LSAT, I found the entire test to be a giant puzzle. Each section holds different rules in terms of what sort of questions you will be asked and the information provided with which to answer said questions. I think the pure logic and reasoning behind all of the sections is immensely mentally stimulating. With effective notations and understanding how to best manage one's time, the LSATs become far less daunting and any individual looking to take the LSATs can take the test while maintaining a very calm and collected mindset. For US history, I think context in history is what makes history such a rich subject. Memorizing dates and important events is one way to do so, but I firmly believe if one understands what is going on in the country as a whole the idea of memorization is no longer necessary. Understanding the social, economic, political, and military history of a various time period provides such a vast understanding of a given time period that the dates become far easier to recall because of the wealth of knowledge behind each specific era of America history. Previously, I have had experience in athletic coaching primarily squash back in the Northeast. My approach, however, was very much geared to finding how any given athlete learns and finding the best approach to introduce new techniques or strategy into their repertoire without feeling the need to force this information upon them. I believe if approached correctly any student (academically or athletically) is capable of evaluating the benefits of understanding a given concept and if it is customized via presentation to their learning strengths it becomes less work and simply fuels the desire to learn more. Hobbies include: squash, physical fitness, and reading books and world news.
