I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I'm a doctoral student at Missouri Baptist University with the experience and conviction necessary to help all learners reach their academic goals. In addition to my current enrollment in the Ed.D. program at MBU, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Webster University, a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Missouri of Missouri-St. Louis and an Ed.S. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

My experience, however, is not limited to theory and textbooks. Before taking on my current role as a mid-level school administrator, I taught communication arts for six years to grades 5-12. During my years in the classroom, I realized that teaching communication arts is so much more than helping students become better readers and writers. We interact with the world around us through communication. Therefore, I view it as my charge to provide students with the skills to read, write, speak and think at a college-bound level. I have experienced success teaching a wide variety of learners. For example, I've taught freshmen reading at a kindergarten level as well as fifth-graders reading at a senior in college level. Every student is different, so I work to meet the unique needs of each learner.

I'm an educator, doctoral student and mom of one (soon to be two!), so most of my time is spent enjoying all of these. I do have additional hobbies that help me unwind at the end of the day. I'm a lifetime nerd: I watch anime, play tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, read sci/fi and fantasy and indulge in video gaming. I love finding common interests with my students, and my hobbies allow me to relate to most kids in some way! I also love exercising, especially running.
