I am a medical doctor, with my M.D. from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. I have several years of training as a resident physician in internal medicine and I am currently in the process of finishing that training. Prior to that I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Cell Science, with a minor in Classical Studies, from the University of Florida (Go Gators!).
I have honed my tutoring experience through several non-traditional avenues over the years. In residency, working with junior residents and teaching them clinical points in various settings pushed me to really tune in to how I engage those I'm teaching. In my church, teaching on philosophy and faith tuned me in to how to interact with youth and make lessons accessible to them. Tutoring middle school students in college provided me with a similar opportunity. I have sharpened the skills of being able to take difficult concepts and distilling them in an understandable way and in making a subject purposeful for a student. I believe everyone wants to succeed and it's up to me as a tutor to enable the potential of a student, by realizing their own strengths. It is my biggest joy. Once you are able to empower a student, the sky's the limit!
My background lets me enjoy several subjects and it has given me a versatility and adaptability to teach a wide range of them. I love solving a math problem as much as dissecting a critical reading passage. I'm equally comfortable teaching the analytical skills for math and science or giving structure in approaching subjects like reading and writing, at many levels and including standardized test prep.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling all over America and to a few cities in Europe, reading philosophy and enriching non-fiction, running in half marathons, playing the keyboard, reading computer and tech news, watching movies, or being outdoors hiking in the mountains or reading on a beach. I love the time I spend with my family and close friends, and enjoy meeting new people. I look forward to getting to know you soon!
