Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Studies and a minor in Portuguese Studies. My courses work included the Study of Hispanic Literatures, Cultures, and Linguistics, Latino Immigration and Community Service, Sociolinguistic Perspectives on Spanish in the United States, Portuguese Conversation and Composition, Global Portuguese, and Film Studies in Portuguese. While working on my degree, I have volunteer as a Learning Circle Participant at the Jane Addams School for Democracy. There, my responsibilities included working with immigrant families and community members doing public work, breaking down language, culture, gender and age barriers, and addressing issues that impact these families daily lives. Additionally, I worked as a Spanish Instructor at the Futura Language Professionals. There, my responsibilities include working with children teaching the Spanish language and promoting enthusiasm and passion for different cultures. Also, I worked as a Mentor Tutor at the McNamara Academic Center at the University of Minnesota and my responsibilities included ensuring that student-athletes utilize the resources necessary to build the essential skills for their pursuit of a degree, serving as a role model, and guiding student-athletes.

Before attending the University of Minnesota, I was a student at Century College and graduated with an Associate in Arts with a concentration in Liberal Arts and Sciences. My courses work included English, physics, biology, mathematics, history, anthropology, and intercultural and interpersonal communication. While working on my degree, I worked as a Spanish Tutor and my responsibilities included facilitating small group conversations, tutoring one-on-one students, reviewing class material, preparing review guides, and conversing in a foreign language.

My philosophy on education centers on an active approach as I engage my students in discussions, activities and higher-lever thinking. I believe that every person can learn and that all students are unique; therefore, they should be taught in a fashion that addresses their individual learning styles and needs.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading Spanish literature and fiction books, running, ice skating, and bowling.
