Celine

Certified Tutor

I have taught in France at the University of Rouen (Physiology, biology and Immunology at the License level), and I hold a PHD in Immunology. In addition, I served as a tutor for math, French and biology in France and here in US.

I have since worked in US since 2010 in two different institutions: City of Hope in California, and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia as postdoctoral fellow. During these 2 positions, I managed students and tutored them in their laboratory work.

I am flexible in my way of teaching, and I am ready to help the student in the best way to address, assist, and solve any problem with all help needed. I usually spend part of the first session to define and outline which problems the students have. I follow the lessons of the teacher and add more examples that will be studied during the session. If I have the student for several sessions, at the end of each session I will lay out a strategy and focus on the key area of help required.

As a native French speaker, I am able to tutor anybody whom needs help to learn this challenging language. I am French and grew up and studied in France. I also taught French in France as a tutor for kids who as difficulties with grammar, vocabulary. All my students improved their grades.

I taught elementary math and biology as a tutor with several students for few years, before moving to US. To make sure of my abilities with the US program, I did several exercises and tests that I successful passed. I love to introduce kids to new things and help them to understand the world. As an immunologist, I use daily the basic math for my work. With my scientific background, I am able to teach the basics of science. I also love to help kids to understand the world around them.

I can teach basic genetics because it is a part of my educational background. I learned bacterial and human genetics at university Paris XII (License and Master degree). I know Mendel rules and the plasmid transfer in bacterial organism and the human heredity. I will be glad to help students through exercises and tests to discover the basic of genetics. Biology is my major at university and college. I got my PhD in France in biology and immunology, I studied cellular biology, microbiology, physiology and comparative anatomy and biology. I studied microbiology for one semester and successfully passed the exam.

I am able to help students improve their learning skills to become independent. Please reach out to me for further information. Looking forward to hearing from you!

What is your teaching philosophy?

I adapt to each student and modify each lesson in relation to the challenges and issues of my students. I always try to determine the best way to help them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I discuss with the student or the parent to know the goal of the tutoring, and to determine the best approach to provide. Then, we start the lesson. During this time, we develop our work relationship and the methods that we will use.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I think that we should increase the vocabulary first and then read various texts with increased level of difficulties. If the issue also involves math problems, I would give the student keys to translate words by mathematical symbols (+, -,<,>, /, x).
